I just think it should be advertised as a 1080p machine. I absolutely love mine and with the state of the gaming market this past year, the Series S is by far one of the cheapest and most inexpensive ways to get into new games for the foreseeable future. Theoretically, if the Series X runs games at 4K, the Series S would need to be 5.4 TFLOPS to run those same games at native 1440p. The Series S only has a third of the GPU power (on paper, other factors such as memory size/bandwidth etc. I'm not saying every game from their studios won't target 1440p, but again it's more common for these titles to aim for 1080p.ġ440p is 44.44% of the pixels of 2160p. Flight Simulator is 1080p and Forza Horizon 5 which is yet to release, is set to be 1080p as examples. Microsoft's own studios don't even seem to target 1440p. Whilst the Series S can and does run games at 1440p, these are more the exception rather than the standard resolution target for games, and almost all of these are either enhanced older Xbox One S titles or indie games.

There are a handful of titles which support 1440p such as Resident Evil VIII, Doom Eternal and Borderlands 3, and some even go higher like Ori and the Will of the Wisps which actually runs at 4K on the Series S.

The vast majority of games however run at 1080p, not 1440p. The Series S is a fantastic console and I like most of you am very happy overall with it. Microsoft advertises the Series S as a console which is designed to target 1440p, but personally at least I think that this is a bit 'optimistic' at best and misleading at worst.
